Over ten years ago, Peter helped us find our new house in Victoria. We're still in this very home, with great thanks to Peter.
Back then I had flown over 3700 km out to Victoria to look at houses with another agent. I was so thoroughly disappointed with what they were showing me. They either completely misunderstood what we were looking for or didn't really care. We had put a lot of effort into the search for a new house- why hadn't our agent done the same?
On that trip, I wandered through neighbourhoods on my own and found the house we had been looking for. Sadly, it had just sold. As I stared at the "SOLD" sign for a property that represented exactly what we had been looking for in a house, but was never brought to our attention by our agent, I rang them and fired them on the spot. The next call was to Peter: he was the listing agent on the sign I was looking at. He was glad to help.
Unlike my previous agent, Peter understood exactly the type of property we were looking for. It was a long search but Peter remained patient and kept in constant contact once I returned home. Then one day he phoned and said "I think I found your house". He must have emailed us dozens of photographs as we examined the house from afar.
It a wasn't an easy job to put the purchase together: only one us was available to physically inspect the house with Peter amid a flurry of faxes, phone calls and emails. Within days our offer was accepted. Peter, hand calmly on the rudder, took us through a process we never could have managed on our own and put our family in a wonderful new home.

Buying a home in Victoria while living and working in Montréal was challenging. Whenever we saw suitable properties posted to the MLS they had already sold, or sold within days or even hours. Without friends or family on the island, we needed a local real estate agent who could hunt for an ideal house on our behalf and stay in close contact with us. Peter Crichton was the perfect agent for our family. Once he had carefully inventoried our priorities for a home, Peter helped us to focus our search on neighbourhoods nearer to a K-12 francophone school and on properties with an existing outbuilding or the possibility to build a studio. Peter also advised us to get a pre-approved mortgage letter so we could move quickly to put in a compelling bid when we found a house we wanted. One night while up late nursing the baby, I received an email from Peter. He had come across a house whose sale had fallen through. It wasn’t yet re-listed on the MLS, so Peter personally went to take dozens of photos of the property because it fit all our criteria. He even measured the lot to ensure it could accommodate a future studio without exceeding lot coverage by-laws. Two days later, I was on a plane (with a teething baby in tow!) to Victoria to visit the house. Peter fetched me from the airport and helped me find a hotel near the house so I could walk around the neighbourhood with the baby. He got me an appointment at the local branch of our Montreal bank, sorted out a notary, and even took me to get some groceries. The 1910 Arts & Crafts house had excellent “bones,” but I was concerned that my husband, an architect, couldn’t inspect the house since he was working out of the country. How could we buy a century-old house that he had never seen in person? To allay our concerns, Peter proposed a long-distance virtual inspection. Peter arranged for a lovely young woman to look after our son in the backyard while he and I checked the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, relaying the information to my husband a few time zones away. With Peter’s expert advice, we were able to buy that house. And the baby who played in the backyard with a sitter while I peered into the attic and poked the cedar shingles? Naturally, our son got the sunniest bedroom with the best view. When Peter dropped by recently to see how we were doing, he couldn’t believe that the “baby” was in university. Two decades later, we still love our home and are grateful to Peter for helping us make the move from Montréal to Victoria. -Claire K.
When moving to beautiful Victoria from 4000 km away, I was eager to buy a house in a busy market. From the beginning, Peter advised me on all the steps involved in the selling and buying process and was such a patient and welcoming host to the island. He knew what would be the best type of house for us and which neighbourhood was ideal, and wouldn’t let me buy just anything impulsively. I’m so glad I listened to him. I am writing to you to express our complete satisfaction that my family experienced during the sale of the family home at 1456 Thurlow Road, Victoria B.C.
In particular we want to express our gratitude in the outstanding service we received from our DFH Real Estate Ltd. Sales Agent, Peter Crichton.
Selling a family home is in itself an emotional experience and more so when you are conducting the sale from Oakville and Victoria.
Peter was very understanding, patient, and provided us with solid professional counsel.
This was not a simple transaction; at one point we entertained the idea of developing the property ourselves rather than selling to a developer. With Peter’s guidance, we pursued the idea, had surveyor’s plans drawn and even had an initial meeting with the City of Victoria Planning department.
Ultimately we decided that our inexperience and the lengthy time required to secure a satisfactory decision from the city was not in our favour.
Throughout this whole process, Peter’s calm demeanor and sound advice kept us from making some serious errors in judgment.
We had contact with two other Victoria Real Estate Firms before we selected Peter as our Sales Agent. In both cases each individual was only interested in a quick flip of the property. Both low-balled their suggested selling price, stating that the Fairfield real estate market was soft and that we should take their selling price if we wanted to sell the property.
Peter was selected based on two criteria:
(one) The first house I purchased was through Dominic Hanley of DFH Real Estate. That experience, some 37 years ago, I found to be excellent.
(two) Peter has a great web site; which I found to be a strong deciding factor.
After my first contact with Peter I was sure that we had made the right Sales Agent selection.
